Vision and Values

O U R  V I S I O N

To offer inspiration to young lives.

“ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, WE CAN ALL SUCCEED”

I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me - Philippians 4:13

We believe that the true value in life is to live with courage and hope because, as children of God, if we persevere “Anything is possible we can all succeed”.  A school community united in trust and rooted in respect, being responsible for providing inspiration for aspiration.

O U R  V A L U E S

As a Church of England School our vision underpins everything that we do and is the thread that binds us all together. We take pride in our Christian distinctiveness and work with the six following key values:

  • RESPONSIBILITY
  • COMMUNITY
  • RESPECT
  • TRUST
  • PERSERVERANCE
  • COURAGE

These values support the culture of the school and we are a team rooted in respect that works to build a strong team unity, focusing at all times on our vision that 'Anything is possible, we can all succeed'.

In our school we take inspiration from geese.

‘GOOSE ETHOS’

Our Goose philosophy particularly encompasses mutual respect and democracy which are part of the British Values.

In our school we take inspiration from Geese.

All the children are taught that they are part of the Upton team and Geese work very much as a team.  When they fly in a ‘V’ formation the flock flies 71% further than if they fly singly.  If a Goose flies alone it feels the drag and resistance against the air.  We need to be supportive of each other and make sure that we work together in the same way that Geese do.  If the lead Goose gets tired it will come out of formation and another Goose takes its place.

We are all individual and have unique skills.  We must respect and protect each other in times of challenge.  Geese give encouragement to the other Geese in the flock and in Upton we support each other to provide encouragement and motivation for achievement in all areas.  Each week the classes individually vote for who they feel has been the Goose of the week.  This is the child who has shown most kindness and compassion in a supportive ‘Goose like’ way. In our presentation assembly the children who are voted for ‘in a democratic process’ are given a Goose award and form a ‘V’ formation when we remind all children that

Geese fly 71% further when they fly as part of a ‘Team’.

WHENEVER A GOOSE FALLS OUT OF FORMATION, IT SUDDENLY FEELS THE DRAG AND RESISTANCE OF TRYING TO FLY ALONE AND QUICKLY GETS BACK INTO FORMATION TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LIFTING POWER OF THE BIRD IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT

IF WE HAVE AS MUCH SENSE AS GEESE, WE WILL STAY IN FORMATION WITH THOSE WHO ARE HEADED WHERE WE WANT TO GO AND BE WILLING TO ACCEPT THEIR HELP, AS WELL AS GIVE OURS TO OTHERS.
