Our Pre-School

FOR CHILDREN FROM 2 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS UP TO WHEN THEY START RECEPTION CLASS

The Pre-School is a colourful, happy and exciting place to learn both indoors and outdoors. We look at each unique child and work with them through a tailor made curriculum to prepare for a smooth transition into the Reception class when the children move on from pre-school. Our golden rules of using kind hands and feet, looking after our things and taking turns are central to life in Nursery. We learn through a balance of independent play and exploration, supported play and planned teaching activities in line with EYFS requirements but based round our needs and interests. We are encouraged to be independent and ‘have a go’ to help us learn from our experiences

Every child has their own unique style of learning. With this in mind, our highly qualified staff members are able to adapt and make changes to any activity to suit the child’s individual needs. Our curriculum is based around the Early Years Foundation stage and comprises of 7 key areas, they are:

  • Communication and language
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Expressive art and design

30 Hours Funding

At Upton upon Severn Pre-School we provide for the needs of 3 to 4 year old funded children. We also cater for both stretched and term time only funding requirements; we are flexible about how you would like to use these hours.

On joining pre-school we can discuss your needs and entitlements in order to support you to make the best decision in how you would like your child’s funding to be used.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

Upton Upon Severn Pre-School is situated within the Primary school which gives us access to the brilliant grounds. Our children have the opportunity to access wellie Wednesday, where they go over to the forest area and enjoy a whole morning of fun and games. As well as this, every session, the children can make use of our impressive outside learning area, which has large sandpits, bikes for physical play, a mud kitchen and much more. Come and take a look for yourselves!

We engage in both our indoor and outdoor classrooms and also make use of the school forest site, field and playground to support our learning and development.

LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

We monitor children’s progress, celebrate their learning experiences and identify key areas for development with parents through using the online learning journal SeeSaw. We see parents as ‘partners’ in their child’s learning.
