Curriculum Intent, Implementation, Impact

Anything is possible, we can all succeed

To inspire… to aspire

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phillippians 12:13

Curriculum Intent
Innovative, creative and engaging. It motivates children to become confident and resilient risk takers who have a passion for lifelong learning.

We believe that the true value in life is to live with courage and hope because, as children of God, if we persevere “Anything is possible we can all succeed.” A school community united in trust and rooted in respect, being responsible for providing inspiration for aspiration. This underpins our entire school philosophy and sets the culture throughout school ensuring the development of pupils’ personal, spiritual and academic development.

We provide an inspirational learning environment for our children to ensure that their learning is deeply rooted and embedded, giving them a sound basis for educational development throughout their lives. Inspired by God’s love for us, we illuminate the goodness in others and aspire in all our achievements. Our curriculum is both inspirational and aspirational: demonstrating commitment to each individual learning journey and reflecting this school’s distinctively inclusive culture. The curriculum is built upon the values of Respect, Responsibility and Perseverance together with the British Values of Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, Democracy and the Rule of Law.

Curriculum Implementation
We provide a broad and balanced creative curriculum underpinned by the strength of the national curriculum, ensuring that each year group has inspirational teaching to ignite the children’s curiosity, learning is both knowledge-rich and progressively skills based. The core learning that our curriculum is built upon is structured around the Head, Heart and Hands.

Head

The head represents knowledge and understanding. We work to ensure that through our vision we can develop and deepen our knowledge gaining wisdom as we grow throughout our school life. Anything is possible we can all succeed.

Heart

The heart also symbolizes the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each individual in our school community. We work with our values to ensure they are interwoven through our teaching and that children’s learning is enhanced in a positive happy and supportive environment.

Hands

The hands stand for action and how we work through the presentation of the curriculum to our children ensuring that each subject is clearly articulated with the depth and breadth of knowledge pupils need to enable them to flourish. For our children’s learning, it is putting our knowledge into the skills.

Teaching is responsive and accommodating with planned opportunities to pre-learn, re-visit and extend to inspire aspirational learning. There is rigour and tight structure for acquiring the knowledge within each subject area that children successfully and confidently use in lines of enquiry as they develop subject-specific skills. The teachers are able to be flexible and creative in the way they present to each individual class. The curriculum structure is carefully arranged to reflect the wonderful local learning opportunities our community offers like the River Severn, the Pepperpot and its links to the Civil War and the stunning nature reserve teeming with wildlife, to name a few. We ensure the curriculum provides knowledge rich learning rooted in awe and wonder moments to enhance and develop our children’s cultural capital.

Curriculum Impact
In every subject area we work to ensure that the underpinning of our ethos runs through all and we work to ensure that every child will learn more and know more. Our teachers are the experts in curriculum delivery; they know the children and together they craft unforgettable learning experiences.

Sequences of learning are scaffolded to include regular points of assessment in every lesson to ensure learning is secure and can be built upon successfully. Teachers are confident in the intelligent use of a range of targeted questioning strategies to elicit recall and assess next steps.

The curriculum, the skills and the knowledge therein, is a rich tapestry and teachers explicitly identify key links with prior learning for all children to ensure that the power of metacognition is not accessed by chance.

Our children are curious learners, engaged by aspirational sequences of learning that are carefully developed to be inclusive for all learners with scaffolding and challenge consistently applied.
