SPORTS CURRICULUM AND FUNDING

Each class takes part in two hours of sport a week. This includes dance, gymnastics and games. In Year 2, 3 and 4 the children go swimming in the summer term.

We take part in many different sporting competitions and festivals and have super links with Hanley Castle High School. We run Intra-School competitions and hold a Sports day in the summer, this ensures that all children can play sport at a competitive level. We often invite external sports specialists into school to teach the staff and the children different sports.

The government is providing funding to all Primary schools to improve the quality of sport for all of their children. Each school will receive approx. £8,000 so that all children benefit regardless of their sporting ability.

We recognise the contribution to PE to the health and well-being of our children, encouraging pupils to understand the need for a healthy lifestyle and to give them a taste of the fun and social aspects of exercise. We believe that providing a varied PE curriculum and a range of extra-curriculum opportunities will have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all pupils, as well as introducing them to life-long interests.

The funding has allowed us to greatly increase our participation in a wide range of competitions and festivals which has allowed pupils to meet their peers from other schools as well as using their skills in a competitive manner.
