Impact

Children across KS1 have one book which they used for both Art and DT. In KS2, children use a sketch book for some of their art work and their enrichment book to record their DT work. At Upton, we use various mediums to produce art and therefore some art work does not fit into or require paper. In these instances, we take photographic or video evidence to give the children opportunities to reflect upon their work.

Children can make connections to their prior learning in both Art and DT as this is visited over the course of the learning sequence. Children can talk about what skills they have learnt and they have persevered through the topics and improved their outcomes.

All children from Pre-School to Year 6 are encouraged to be creative with their art work and products. The children in KS2 can talk about how their pieces of art or products are sustainable and why it is important for our creations to be so.

Formative assessment is used consistently across our Art and DT journeys to ensure children have the right skills they need in order to meet their end goal. Teachers address misconceptions by adding additional tool kit lessons into the journey of creation.

At Upton, the children are proud of their creations. Art work is displayed across school, parents and carers are invited in to admire installations of work and our weekly newsletter is a great outlet to show the children’s work off to a larger audience.
